The main restaurant has a fixed menu - pretty much a tasting menu - and it's proper west-end quality. Each dish got better and better. Delicious and spacious surroundings. The intimate bar has an a la carte menu.

Been in agony with vomiting/diarrhoea since eating oysters here. Ironically - Food, drinks and service were great! But food safety needs to be a prerequisite to any of this and I don’t trust the practices here. I suppose any consumer takes a chance when ordering a high risk seafood but no one goes out for a good night with the aim of being this poorly afterwards.

The last time I went to The Silver Cup was around 1997 or 1998 as a teenager, needless to say it’s very different now! We ate in the bar area, it’s really nicely decorated, very cosy. We had some mulled wine followed by two and three course meals from the Sunday menu, standout for me was the Venison Scotch Egg starter and the Mont Blanc dessert. But the standard of food was excellent. The service was also excellent and the staff are all really nice and charming. I noticed they have also put together a really good partially covered beer garden area with lots of decent looking seating. I’m really impressed.

Six of us visited the Silver Cup in Harpenden for Sunday lunch with great expectations of a Michelin listed restaurant but we were disappointed. Although the starters were delicious, the main courses were not. The sirloin beef was …

Dinner at The Silver Cup for Wednesdays steak night. Really enjoyed but... come with a big appetite and baggy trousers! It's a kilo of fine steak for 2! The doggy will feed us 2 more meals. Lovely staff, very nice atmosphere. Have to book. Easy to find. Price for 2 with tomahawk steak, sides, shared dessert and some wine was £162 Inc service. well recommended.

The pub has recently been renovated and looks amazing. The staff are very friendly and tentative. The pub dog is a beautiful boy. The pub food is not quite conducive with a snack, but the set menu looks awesome. The beer is spot on. A definite go see.

Just an update as I have written previous glowing reviews of this restaurant. My Partner had booked online but then as we thought we hadn't received a confirmation email we booked elsewhere. On the day my Partner received a text to say …

Myself and my husband had the most amazing meal last night. The food was delicious, service was spot on and altogether a night with a wonderful atmosphere and I would highly recommend that you have dinner at this great place.

We booked 3 months in advance for a special occasion and they blew us out with only 1 week’s notice. Some nonsense about taking a wedding booking. Heard they have done this to others so we will NOT be giving them a second chance. If you purport to be a quality restaurant and make people wake up early to book 3 months to the day in advance you should value your customers more than this!

In summary, good food. Service could be better. Went today for a roast lunch. Had been before and it was nice, so we took a friend from abroad to try it as well. Disappointed. Ordered the pork, which included gravy previously but this time did not, and when we we ordered more gravy, the waitress made a point that she wasn’t going to charge the extra (which they normally do! Outrageous, right? £36 for 2 course and if you want more gravy you need need to pay extra). The Kids roast is £27 for main and a dessert. My daughter barely tried the sorbet when it accidentally fell on the floor and it broke. She was so disappointed in herself for having accidentally dropped it (she’s 3), the venue did not address the accident or offered a replacement (paid or not!). A tiny little piece of sorbet… they try to be fancy but they are VERY far away from offering the level of service that the should given the price tag. Not a child friendly place either. It will never be anything more than an average pub with this service!
